The Art Behind the Design

Every Floral Scroll Portrait is painted entirely by hand in our Michigan studio by artist Barbara Downey, using a process she has refined over nearly 30 years. The colorful background wash and bold graphic scrollwork are applied as two distinct layers, creating depth and richness that reveals itself differently depending on the light. No two pieces are ever quite identical. That’s not a flaw — that’s the point.

The Frame

The white distressed finish gives the Floral Scroll Portrait a clean bright backdrop that allows the colorful design to take center stage. Applied by hand in our Michigan studio, worn edges reveal warm wood beneath — softening the bold colors beautifully. The Portrait Series uses more substantial wood than our Classic Series — you’ll feel the difference immediately.
