The Art Behind the Design

Every Studio Series Elephant is painted entirely by hand in our Michigan studio by artist Barbara Downey, using a process she has refined over nearly 30 years. The elephant’s richly decorated body — filled with intricate patterns in teal, purple, and gold — is rendered entirely freehand. No two pieces are ever quite identical. That’s not a flaw — that’s the point.

The Studio Series Elephant features our distinctive two-tone frame — black distressed vertical pieces paired with white distressed horizontal pieces, with a contrasting inner frame piece adding quiet sophistication.
