The Art Behind the Design

Every Iris Portrait is painted entirely by hand in our Michigan studio by artist Barbara Downey, using a process she has refined over nearly 30 years. The iris blooms extend from screen onto frame — painted as one bold continuous composition. No two pieces are ever quite identical. That’s not a flaw — that’s the point.

The Frame

The weathered gray finish gives the Portrait Series Iris a clean bright backdrop that allows the deep purple blooms to take center stage with maximum impact. Applied by hand, worn edges reveal warm wood beneath — softening the bold colors just enough to feel perfectly balanced. The Portrait Series uses more substantial wood than our Classic Series — you’ll feel the difference immediately.
