The Art Behind the Design

Every Butterflies Studio is painted entirely by hand in our Michigan studio by artist Barbara Downey, using a process she has refined over nearly 30 years. The butterfly and floral design extends from screen onto the frame — painted as one continuous joyful composition. No two pieces are ever quite identical. That’s not a flaw — that’s the point.

The Frame

The Butterflies Studio features one of our rarest frame treatments — a white base with hand-painted purple edges, coordinating with a fully painted purple jewelry bar suspended below. Unlike our standard distressed and stained finishes, this is a fully custom color combination applied entirely by hand. The Studio Series uses more substantial wood than our Classic Series — giving this cheerful custom finish its most impressive expression yet.
