The Art Behind the Design

Every Daisies is painted entirely by hand in our Michigan studio by artist Barbara Downey, using a process she has refined over nearly 30 years. The technique is entirely our own — part American folk art tradition, part closely guarded studio secret. What begins as a blank screen becomes something you’ll want to look at every single day.

The daisy design extends from the screen onto the solid wood frame itself — painted as one continuous garden scene, so the blooms spill naturally to the edges. No two pieces are ever quite identical. That’s not a flaw — that’s the point.

The Frame

The white distressed finish gives the Daisies a soft, sun-washed quality — like a garden gate that has weathered a few happy summers. Applied by hand in our Michigan studio, the worn edges reveal warm wood beneath, giving each frame its own gentle character. Against the soft blue-grey background of the Daisies design, the white frame feels clean, fresh, and completely at home in any light-filled space.
