The Art Behind the Design

Every Sing Your Own Song earring holder is painted entirely by hand in our Michigan studio by artist Barbara Downey, using a process she has refined over nearly 30 years. The technique is entirely our own—part American folk-art tradition, part closely guarded studio secret. What begins as a blank screen becomes something you’ll want to look at every single day.

No two pieces are ever quite identical. That’s not a flaw—that’s the point.

This design pairs a playful bird with a message about individuality. Rich blue color, dark outlines, decorative swirls, and floating musical notes give the artwork its cheerful character. The lettering becomes part of the composition, making the message as much a part of the design as the bird itself.

The Frame

The white distressed finish is applied by hand in our Michigan studio, giving each frame its own gently weathered character. Warm wood tones show through along the edges, providing a soft contrast to the blue bird and dark lettering. No two frames look exactly alike.
