The Art Behind the Design

Every Aida Jewelry Cabinet is painted entirely by hand in our Michigan studio by artist Barbara Downey, using a process she has refined over nearly 30 years. The technique is entirely our own — part American folk art tradition, part closely guarded studio secret. What begins as a blank screen becomes something you’ll want to look at every single day. No two pieces are ever quite identical. That’s not a flaw — that’s the point.

The Frame

The black distressed finish is applied by hand in our Michigan studio — a deliberate process that wears the edges down to reveal the warm wood beneath. At 2¾” deep the Cabinet has a quiet presence on your wall that hints at the storage within without revealing it. The felt-lined back panel includes two attached picture hangers — ready to mount securely and level.
