The Art Behind the Design

Every Brave Wings Portrait is painted entirely by hand in our Michigan studio by artist Barbara Downey, using a process she has refined over nearly 30 years. The technique is entirely our own — part American folk art tradition, part closely guarded studio secret. The butterfly and floral border extends from screen onto the solid wood frame — painted as one continuous composition. No two pieces are ever quite identical. That’s not a flaw — that’s the point.

The Frame

The white distressed finish gives the Brave Wings a soft celebratory quality — the perfect backdrop for an inspirational message.
